    The author studies the existence of positive multi-peaked solutions to the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ -\varepsilon ^{2}u^{\prime \prime }\left( x\right) +\left( \lambda -\chi _{A}\left( x\right) \right) u\left( x\right) =K\left( x\right) \left( 1-\chi _{A}\left( x\right) \right) \left| u\right| ^{p-1}u\left( x\right) , \text{ \;\;\;\;}x\in \mathbb{R} , \] where \(\varepsilon >0,\) \(\lambda >1,\) \(p>1,\) \(\mathbb A=\left[ a_{1},b_{1}\right] \cup \left[ a_{2},b_{2}\right] ,\) \ \(a_{1}<b_{1}<a_{2}<b_{2}\), \(\chi _{A}\) is the characteristic function of \(\mathbb A,\) \(K\in C^{1}\left( \mathbb{ R}\right) \) and \(\inf\limits_{x\in \mathbb{R\setminus A}}K\left( x\right) >0. \) This type of equation arises in nonlinear optics. By variational methods, he constructs a new type of a multi-peaked solution.
