In computer aided geometric design, the challenging problem is to find a parametric representation of approximate algebraic surfaces, of which input data can be perturbed by previous data processing. The paper is focused on a development of a general algorithm for parametrization of approximate algebraic surfaces with singularities. For the input approximate algebraic surface, which may be or may not be rational, the output rational surface is generated. The output surface lies within the region, which is bounded by the internal and the external offset surface of the given approximate algebraic surface. The distance between the internal and the external offset surface depends on the degree of the input surface and on the predetermined fixed tolerance. The fixed tolerance follows from the user's requests or can be derived from conditions of practical application in which the parametrized surface is to be used. In the article, many examples and an error analysis of the obtained results are presented.
