This short paper presents a proof of a conjecture proposed by \textit{M. Hochbruck} and \textit{C. Lubich} [ibid. 83, No. 3, 403--426 (1999; Zbl 0937.65077)] that the uniform error bound when a Gautschi-type method is applied to an oscillatory second order differential equation is independent of the size of the system. The paper provides a simplified proof with stronger conclusions than the corresponding result by Hochbruck and Lubich [loc. cit.].
