The paper is a survey of results of the authors concerning the relationship between perturbative renormalization and motivic Galois theory. It is shown that all quantum field theories have a common universal symmetry given by a motivic Galois group. This group provides a universal formula for couterterms and is obtained via Riemann-Hilbert correspondence.
