High order finite difference approximations (Hodie, OCI, SCHOS, Collatz's Mehrstellenverfahren) have been proposed for various partial differential equations. All reduce to the last for the Poisson equation. The accuracy and computational efficiency of these are compared for a test problem. Methods of approximating the first partial derivatives, once the mesh values are known, which are second and fourth order accurate, are given.
