[For part I see Math. Ann. 270, 349-379 (1985; Zbl 0554.14012).] Here one finds some applications of part I to abelian varieties. First there is an analytic version of Grothendieck's ''semi-abelian reduction theorem'' [cf. SGA 7]; namely, it is shown that each abelian variety A over the fraction field K of a complete valuation ring R contains (up to finite separable extension of K) a connected open analytic subgroup \(\bar A\) which is smooth over R and has semi-abelian reduction. Using this result it is possible to construct the uniformization of abelian varieties à la Raynaud, but without resorting to the theory of Néron models. In fact, the existence of Néron models with semi-abelian reduction and thus the algebraic version of Grothendieck's theorem can be deduced without effort from the analytic results proved in this article.
