The paper deals with a nonlinear initial boundary-value problem concerning atmospheric processes. The existence of a unique local solution which is analytic in the space - variable and continuously differentiable in time is established. The approach taken in this paper has been previously applied by the author also to the theory of shallow water, to nonhomogeneous fluids and to a free boundary problem of the theory of water waves.
