A result of \textit{S. I. Goldberg} [Kodai Math. Sem. Rep. 21, 226-232 (1969; Zbl 0176.192)] ensuring positivity of the Euler characteristic of a compact Riemannian manifold is, in dimension 6, extended in a form which is open in the \(C^ 3\)-topology of metrics. Besides positive scalar curvature, the conformal curvature tensor has to be small enough, and the Ricci curvature not so much deviated from its average. Precise assumptions by inequalities are given. The proof involves an integral formula for the norm of the divergence of Weyl's conformal curvature tensor.
