The paper deals with mechanical symmetries of time-dependent Hamiltonian systems. The discussion is developed in the framework of an extended Hamiltonian system in an extended phase space which incorporates the canonically conjugate variable \(p_ 0\) of time t. Using an extended Poisson bracket on the corresponding phase space the Lie-algebraic structure of time-dependent symmetries is studied. The relationship between the symmetry algebras of classical and the quantum system is established.
