    The Poisson equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions is solved. A symmetric marching technique on rectangular regions is developed. The above mentioned method is combined with a mesh refinement technique, which is used to obtain a solution of the problem on finer grids. The method is demonstrated by test examples.
