Let A be a complex (associative) *-algebra and let f be a linear functional on A. When there exists a Hilbert space H, a \(^*\)- representation T from A into L(H), and a cyclic vector x such that \(f(a)=(T(a)x,x)\) for all a in A, then f is said to be representable. The author shows that f is representable when the following two (necessary) conditions hold. (1) For some constant m and every a in A, \(| f(a)|^ 2\leq m f(a^*a).\) (2) There exists a *-seminorm p on A and a positive constant M such that, for every a in A, \(| f(a)| \leq M p(a)\).
