A considerable part of the paper is devoted to solve some problems in computer aided geometric design using the Cayley method of elimination. Some special examples are also presented. The main results and the connection between the Cayley method and the Euclidean algorithm are motived. Reviewer's remark. For special problems in computer aided geometric design, the implicitization and the inversion, see \textit{R. N. Goldmann}, \textit{T. W. Sederberg} and \textit{D. C. Anderson} [ibid. 1, 327- 356 (1984; reviewed below)].
