    Cet article est une revue présentant une formulation asymptotique des équations des écoulements atmosphériques. Ceux-ci sont caractérisés par la très grande variété de nombres sans dimension liés aux phénomènes physiques qui sont en jeu: nombres de Strouhal, de Reynolds, de Rossby, de Froude, de Mach, de Boussinesq, d'Ekman, paramètre hydrostatique etc... Sans examiner la totalité des équations limites que l'on peut obtenir lorsque ces nombres tendent vers 0 ou l'infini, l'auteur présente les approximations conduisant aux modèles les plus courants: modèles hydrostatique, géostrophique, solenoïdal, modèle de Boussinesq. L'article constitue un bon état de l'art sur la description asymptotique des écoulements géophysiques compressibles. Tout au plus aurait-on préféré pour un tel article, un bibliographie un peu plus étendue (sur 63 références citées, 23 sont de l'auteur lui-même).
