Let G be a \(\sigma\)-compact and locally compact group. If \(f\in L^{\infty}(G)\), let \(U_ f\) be the closed subspace of \(L^{\infty}(G)\) generated by the left translations of f. Conditions are given which ensure that (i) each function in \(U_ f\) may be expanded in an essentially unique way as an absolutely convergent series of translations of f, and (ii) \(U_ f\) is not convolution invariant.
