Several widely known algorithms for identification of the coefficients in linear control systems are considered. It is shown that in some cases the system's variables exhibit bursting behaviour with following decrease. This phenomenon is the cause of unsatisfactory behaviour of corresponding adaptive regulators. Techniques to avoid this are suggested, based on the introduction of input signals with rich spectra. Reviewer's remark: This undesired phenomenon doesn't occur if adaptation algorithms, given in the book of \textit{V. N. Fomin}, \textit{A. L. Fradkov} and \textit{V. A. Yakubovich} [''Adaptive control of dynamic objects'' (1981; Zbl 0522.93002)] are used.
