It is shown that in certain types of dynamical systems it is possible to have attractors which are strange but not chaotic. A strange attractor is an attractor which is not a finite set of points and is not piecewise differentiable. A chaotic attractor is an attractor with the exponential divergence of close trajectories. The article gives two examples for which strange nonchaotic attractors occur. The effects of perturbations of these strange attractors are discussed.
