The aim is to integrate explicitly the equations of motion for the periodic Toda chain \[ \partial^ 2q_ n/\partial t^ 2=\exp (q_{n- 1}-q_ n)-\exp (q_ n-q_{n+1}),\quad q_ n(t)\in R^ 1,\quad n=1,2,...,N+1, \] describing the dynamics of \(N+1\) particles on a line interacting via an exponential potential. A method initially proposed for the Korteweg-de Vries equation and subsequently developed for a discrete modification of the Korteweg-de Vries equation is used.
