Let \(\ell_ n(r)\), \(n=0,1,..\). be a sequence of positive functions. An entire function f(z), \(z\in {\mathbb{C}}\), is called a function of bounded index with respect to \(\{\ell_ n\}\) if there exists \(N\in {\mathbb{Z}}_+\) such that for all \(z\in {\mathbb{C}}\), \(n\in {\mathbb{Z}}_+\) the following inequality holds \[ (n! \ell_ n(| z|))^{-1} | f^{(n)}(z)| \leq \max \{(k! \ell_ k(| z|))^{-1} | f^{(k)}(z)|: 0\leq k\leq N\}. \] Under extra assumptions on \(\{\ell_ n\}\) the author obtains estimates for \(\nu\) (r,f) (the central index of the power expansion of f(z)) and \(M_ f(r)=\max \{| f(z)|:| z| =r\}\). Besides that an estimate is obtained for \(M_ f(r)\), f being a function with bounded value distribution, i.e. a function for which the number \(n_ f(a,w)\) of the roots of the equation \(f(z)-w=0\) in the disc \(\{\) \(z: | z-a| <\ell (| a|)\}\) satisfies the condition \(\sup \{n_ f(a,w):\) \(a\in {\mathbb{C}}\), \(w\in {\mathbb{C}}\}<\infty\).
