An infinite elastic medium containing a rigid inclusion is dealt with from the point of view of its optimal shape. The optimality criterion concerns the minimum value of stress concentration. To formulate the optimal problems the authors use the von Mises yield criterion, but other yield criteria are also discussed. Loadings are assumed to be applied at infinity, so in the absence of the inclusion the stress state is homogeneous. The problem is solved exactly as an inverse problem and the optimal shape of the inclusion is found. The paper is well written.
