Using the results by \textit{A. Draux} [Polynômes orthogonaux formels. Applications (1983; Zbl 0504.42001)] a matrix formalism was developed for orthogonal polynomials associated to a linear functional c, not necessarily definite, in the vector space \(\Pi\) of real polynomials. Similar results for a definite functional were already found by \textit{C. Brezinski} [Padé-type approximation and general orthogonal polynomials (1980; Zbl 0418.41012). The reproducing kernel \[ K_ k(x,t)=(P_ 0(x),...,P_ k(x))H^{-1}_{k+1}(P_ 0(t),...,P_ k(t)^ T \] is defined \((H_ k\) is the Hankel determinant). Its reproducing property, recurrence relation and the Christoffel-Darboux relation are given and proved. The coefficients of the recurrent relation were calculated. A procedure was developed to calculate the coefficients of the Gaussian quadrature formulas for the functional c. These coefficients were obtained as solutions of a triangular matrix system. The elements of the discrete orthogonality relation were calculated.
