Authors study the local behavior of generalized solutions of a nonlinear degenerating parabolic equation arising in porous medium mechanics \[ (\partial /\partial t)\sigma (u)-\Delta u=0,\quad \sigma: {\mathbb{R}}\to [0,\infty),\quad 0<\sigma '(s),\quad s\in (0,\infty);\quad \sigma (s)=0,\quad s\leq 0. \] The form of the function \(\sigma\) (u) is defined, which is continuous provided the solution u is bounded. A counterexample is given.
