A resultant operator \(R_ n(a,b)\) is defined on a Banach space \(L^ p(\Gamma)\) for each non-negative integer n and for analytic functions a(z) and b(z) in a multiply-connected domain \(D^+\) with boundary \(\Gamma\). This is a generalization of the resultant matrix of Sylvester, who considered the case where a and b are polynomials and \(D^+\) is a domain of complex numbers. The main result of the paper presents an explicit description of the null spaces of the resultant operators on the Banach space. Some modifications for different domains are also considered. The case of the unit disk is studied and some sharp results for the case of n polynomials are given. The final section of the paper is devoted to an application of the established results to a system of coprime functions in \(D^+\).
