In this brief note the author extends arguments due to J. Simons [see the reviewer and \textit{H. B. Lawson jun.}, Commun. Math. Phys. 79, 189-230 (1981; Zbl 0475.53060)] on the instability of any non-flat Yang-Mills connection over the standard sphere S n (n\(\geq 5)\) to sufficiently convex hypersurfaces in \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+1}\).
