Preconditioning indefinite discretization matrices (Q1114310): Difference between revisions

The author shows that preconditioning matrices for elliptic boundary value problems, which lead to linear systems with positive definite and symmetric coefficient matrices can also be used for linear systems arising from boundary value problems which are potentially indefinite due to lower order terms in the partial differential equations. As an illustrative example a simple second order boundary value problem is considered. The consequences for Krylov-space methods are investigated.
