Using decomposition results we obtain an extension of the \textit{R. E. Barlow} and \textit{F. Proschan} [Stochastic Processes Appl. 3, 153-173 (1975; Zbl 0312.62072)] concept of reliability importance of system components to multistate monotone systems. In this context we consider both the reliability importance of components in a modular set and the reliability importance of a module for the system.
