The paper is concerned with two situations where it is possible to deduce properties of a topological space from properties of the associated Baire and Borel \(\sigma\)-algebra, respectively. At first, the relationship between Baire-separated (resp., Baire-dominated) spaces and normal (resp., cb-) spaces is studied. Thereafter, it is shown that, for some classes of topological spaces, metrizability can be characterized by means of certain countability properties of the Baire and Borel \(\sigma\)- algebra.
