Free twisted films of a liquid are widely used for the dispersion of fuel in atomizers. They are also used in modern energy technology. The numerical and experimental investigation of stable wavy shapes in free films of ideal liquids neglects the effect of the forces of surface tension on the longitudinal motion of the liquid in the film. In the present study this assumption is removed, and by means of asymptotic analysis and numerical calculations a study is made of steady wavy configurations of free films, and also of the effect on them of the viscosity and elasticity of the liquid.
