The coupling of hyperbolic and parabolic systems in a one-dimensional domain divided into two disjoint subdomains is considered. Suitable interface conditions are proposed which are based on a singular perturbation analysis. Two different interface conditions are presented according to whether the regularization procedure is variational or nonvariational. A spectral collocation method is proposed which yields an approximation to the given problem. This work is a preliminary step toward the analysis of the coupling between Euler and Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flow.
