The main result of the paper is a description of idempotent measures on semigroups (G,*), where G is a compact Hausdorff space and * an axiomatically defined convolution on the set of regular Borel measures on G. Theorem 1. The probability measure \(\mu\) on (G,*) is idempotent, if and only if for any \(x\in \sup p \mu\) we have \(\mu *E_ x=\mu\) \((E_ x\) is the degenerate distribution concentrated at the point x).
