After a very conclusive survey of the actual stage of the lifting theory, the author presents some results concerning the minimal isometric dilations and gives extension theorems for contractions and bicontractions on Krejn spaces. The main result of the paper is the following lifting theorem (4.1): Let \({\mathcal A}\) and \({\mathcal B}\) be Krejn spaces, \(T_ 1\in {\mathbb{B}}({\mathcal A})\) and \(T_ 2\in {\mathbb{B}}({\mathcal B})\) bicontractions, and \(\{U_ 1,\tilde {\mathcal A}\}\) and \(\{U_ 2,\tilde {\mathcal B}\}\) minimal isometric dilations of \(T_ 1\) and \(T_ 2\) respectively. If \(A\in {\mathbb{B}}({\mathcal A},{\mathcal B})\) is a bicontraction and \(AT_ 1=T_ 2A\), then there exists an \(\tilde A\in {\mathbb{B}}(\tilde {\mathcal A},\tilde {\mathcal B})\) with the following properties: (a) \(\tilde A\) is bicontraction; (b) \(P^{\tilde {\mathcal B}}_{{\mathcal B}}\tilde A| {\mathcal A}=A\), and (c) \(\tilde AU_ 1=U_ 2\tilde A\). The operator \(\tilde A\) is called bicontractive intertwining dilation of A. Finally it is shown that a one-to-one correspondence exists between all bicontractive intertwining dilations \(\tilde A\) of a given bicontaction A and certain maximal negative subspaces of an associated Krejn space.
