It is shown that if x is a random variable with a gamma distribution with parameter \(\alpha\), then \(x^{\beta}\) has an indeterminate distribution (in the Hamburger sense) for \(\beta >\max (2,2\alpha)\), extending a result given in \textit{C. Berg}, Ann. Probab. 16, No.2, 910-913 (1988; Zbl 0645.60018). As a special case, it follows that the Weibull distribution is indeterminate for particular values of the parameters.
