Oscillating solutions of the Falkner-Skan for positive \(\beta\) (Q915935): Difference between revisions

The paper deals with the oscillating solutions of the Falkner-Skan equation for positive \(\beta\). More precisely, the authors consider a classical fluid dynamics model which can be written in the form \[ (1)\quad F'''+f''+\beta (1-(f')^ 2)=0\quad (\beta >0). \] Some theorems of existence of solutions to (1) are given: the authors prove that (1) has a periodic solution for any \(\beta >1\); moreover, for any \(\beta >1\) and any integer N greater than or equal to 1, equation (1) together with the boundary conditions \(f(0)=f'(0)=0\), and \(f'(\infty)=1\) has a solution with at least N relative minima. Further interesting results are given for \(\beta >2\); in particular they prove the existence of many periodic solutions.
