The authors study a class of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind such as \((1)\quad \phi (s)-\int^{b}_{a}g_{\alpha}(| s- t|)k(s,t)\phi (t)dt=f(s),\quad a\leq s\leq b\) where \(g_{\alpha}(s)=s^{\alpha -1}\text{ for } 0<\alpha <1,\quad =\log s\text{ for } \alpha =1,\) \(f\in C[a,b]\text{ and } k\in C([a,b]\times [a,b]).\) The results of this paper extend the results of \textit{C. Schneider} [Integral Equations Oper. Theory 2, 62-68 (1979; Zbl 0403.45002)] to singular Hammerstein equations where \(\phi\) (t) is replaced by \(\psi\) (t,\(\phi\) (t)). Indeed, some regularity properties of the solution to a class of weakly singular Hammerstein equations are described. Then the authors develop a numerical method based on a piecewise collocation scheme but without numerical experiments. This numerical technique is based upon the technique used by \textit{G. Vainikko} and \textit{P. Uba} [J. Austral. Math. Soc. (Ser. B) 22, 431-438 (1981; Zbl 0475.65084)].
