The author shows how the Sparling form (introduced in an unpublished 1982 preprint of G. A. J. Sparling) can be expressed in terms of the Newman- Penrose spin-coefficient formalism. The principal result is an expression for the energy-momentum pseudotensor in terms of spin-coefficients.
