The paper shows that the convergence rate of the parametric cubic spline approximation of a plane curve is of order four. For the first and second derivatives, the rates are of order three and two, respectively. These results are better than those given by \textit{M. S. Hanna}, \textit{D. G. Evans} and \textit{P. W. Schweitzer} [ibid. 26, 217-232 (1986; Zbl 0593.65009)]. Some numerical examples illustrate the predicted convergence rate of the approximation.
