A review of error propagation into regions of smoothness for linear approximations to hyperbolic equations is presented. A subcell resolution procedure is combined with essentially non oscillatory (ENO) schemes to prevent the loss of accuracy in smooth regions of nonlinear problems. The numerical solution of a model problem is computed with second order uniformly ENO schemes and subcell resolution, and the error is analyzed.
