Let F be a number field and K an extension of F with Galois group \(D_ 4\) (resp. \(A_ 4\) or \(S_ 4)\). The author constructs, whenever they exist, the quadratic extensions L of K, Galois over F, the Galois group \(Gal(L/F)\) of which is the generalized dihedral group \(\tilde D_ 4\) (resp. \(\tilde A_ 4=SL_ 2({\mathbb{F}}_ 3)\) or \(\tilde S_ 4=GL_ 2({\mathbb{F}}_ 3)).\) Note: Witt's construction of quaternion fields has been generalized by the reviewer [J. Algebra 109, 508-535 (1987; Zbl 0625.12011)].
