Let \(\Omega\) be an open subset of \(\mathbb R^{n}\) and let \(A\) be a Young function. Among other theorems of the paper, there are the following. 1. If \[ \int^{+ \infty}\left(\frac{t}{A(t)}\right)^{\frac{1}{n-1}}dt < +\infty, \] then each element of \(W^{1, A}_{loc}(\Omega)\) is differentiable a.e. in \(\Omega\) and its classical gradient agrees with its weak gradient a.e. in \(\Omega\). 2. If \[ \int^{+ \infty}\left(\frac{t}{A(t)}\right)^{\frac{1}{n-1}}dt = +\infty, \] then there exists a nowhere differentiable in \(\Omega\) element \(u\) of \(W^{1, A}_{loc}(\Omega)\).
