M-band wavelets are an alternative for the standard 2-band orthogonal wavelets that have attracted considerable attention due to their flexibility. Because of the increased number of degrees of freedom the design of M-band wavelets is very challenging. This paper presents an algebraic approach to construct M-band orthonormal wavelet bases with perfect reconstruction by solving constraint equations. Practical computation procedures are given together with some examples.
