Let \(T\) be a bounded linear operator on a complex Hilbert space \(H\). For a positive integer \(n\) and positive number \(p\), let \(f(m)=({T^{n+m}}^{*}T^{n+m})^{\frac{n+p}{n+m}}\) and \(g(m)=(T^{n+m}{T^{n+m}}^{*})^{\frac{n+p}{n+m}}\), \(m\in\mathbb N\). The authors obtain that for \(k=1\) or \(2\), if \(T\) is \(p\)-hyponormal for \(p\in (k-1,k]\), then \(f(m)\) (resp., \(g(m)\)) is increasing (resp., decreasing) on \(m\geq k\). These are extensions of \textit{M.~Ito}'s results in [J.~Inequal.\ Appl.\ 6, No.~1, 1--15 (2001; Zbl 1008.47027)]. Then the authors discuss the best possibilities for the above results to hold.
