The authors derive two formulae for obtaining new conservation laws from known ones through the action of contact transformation. The first formula shows how to use any contact transformation, including a discrete one, which maps a given system of partial differential equations to another system to directly obtain a conservation law of the second system from any known conservation law of the given system. Here the second formula allows one to check a priori whether or not an admitted contact symmetry transformation yields a new conservation law of the given system. Several examples of these formulae applications to nonlinear telegraph and cylindrical KdV equations are given.
