In this article, a space is said to be \textsl{totally disconnected} if each quasicomponent is a singleton (the term \textsl{completely separated} has also been used for this property). A point \(p\) of a connected space \(X\) is a \textsl{dispersion point} (respectively an \textsl{explosion point}) of \(X\) if \(X\setminus\{p\}\) is hereditarily disconnected (respectively, totally disconnected). Many examples of connected spaces with a dispersion point without the fixed point property are known [see for example \textit{A. Gutek}, Topology Appl. 30, 101--105 (1988; Zbl 0661.54038)] and the aim of this paper is to construct a one dimensional connected (separable metrizable) space with an explosion point which does not have the fixed point property.
