The authors introduce the concept of ideal-comparability condition for von Neumman regular rings. Let \(I\) be an ideal of a regular ring \(R\). If \(R\) satisfies the \(I\)-comparability condition, i.e., for any \(x\) in \(I\) and \(y\) in \(R\), either \(xR\) is isomorphic to a submodule of \(yR\) or \(yR\) is isomorphic to a submodule of \(xR\), then \(R\) is one-sided unit-regular iff so is \(R/I\). Also, they prove that a regular \(R\) satisfies the general comparability condition iff the following hold: (1) \(R/I\) satisfies the general comparability condition; (2) \(R\) satisfies the general comparability condition; (3) The natural map from \(B(R)\) to \(B(R/I)\) is surjective, where \(B(X)\) denotes the set of idempotent elements in \(X\).
