Let \(K\) be a compact set in the open complex plane. Denote by \(R_n(K)\) the class of all rational functions \(Q(z)\) of degree \(\leq n\) whose poles belong to the complement of \(K\). For \(s=1,2,\dots\) the author introduces the values \(\lambda^{(s)}(z,K) = \sup\{| Q^{(s)}(z)| : Q \in R_n(K), \|Q\|_{C(K)}=1\}\) where \(Q^{(s)}(z)\) is the derivative of order \(s\) of \(Q(z)\). The author describes the class of rational functions in which \(\lambda^{(s)}(z,K)\) is estimated.
