This paper considers the problem of computing the algebraic K-theory of a rational surface X over a finite field F. The first result is that the motif of X is completely determined by the action of Frobenius on Pic\((\bar X)\). The K-theory of motives arising from representations is then computed. The principal result is then that \(H^ i(X,K_ j)=H^ 0(Gal,H^ i(\bar X,K_ j)).\) Since the K-cohomology of \(\bar X\) is known, this result yields a complete computation of the K-theory of X. In particular, the orders of the groups \(H^ i(X,K_ j)\) are related in a natural way to the values of the L-functions associated to X.
