Consider the polynomial Liénard equation \[ \ddot x+ f(x)\dot x+ g(x)= 0.\tag{\(*\)} \] The authors describe families of polynomials \(f\) and \(g\) such that \((*)\) has an algebraic hyperbolic limit cycle. This paper corrects and extends results presented in a paper by \textit{M. A. Abdelkader} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 218, No. 1, 308--312 (1998; Zbl 0889.34031)].
