Let \(B\) be a Borel subgroup in a reductive algebraic group \(G\) over a field \(k\) of characteristic \(p\), where \(p\) is larger than the Coxeter number of \(G\). The main result is a full determination of \(H^2(B,\lambda)\), \(H^3(B,\lambda)\) for any one dimensional representation \(\lambda\) of \(B\). There are many cases. Starting point for the computation is the known cohomology \(H^\bullet(B_1,\lambda)\), where \(B_1\) is the first Frobenius kernel of \(B\). The analogous problem for quantum groups is also solved. Here the difficult case is that of a quantum group at a root of unity.
