In this paper dimension functions are introduced and studied for metric Peano continua \(X\). Using the Hölder function, the Hölder dimension, Hö-dim is introduced for a metric space \((X,\rho)\) as \[ \text{Hö-dim}(X,\rho) = \inf\{d :\text{ there is a \(1/d\)-Hölder onto map }f :[0,1]\to X\} \] and as a topological invariant: \[ \text{Hö-dim}(X) = \inf\{\rho:\text{ Hö-dim}(X, \rho), \rho\text{ is an admissable metric on }X\}. \] A connected version S-dim\((X)\) of the fractal dimension is developed giving a lower bound for Hö-dim as \(\dim(X)\leq \text{S-dim}(X)\leq\text{Hö-dim}(X)\). As an upper bound for Hö-dim the convexity degree is used: Hö-dim\((X)\leq \{\dim(X),\text{ deg}_{\text{conv}}(X)\}\). So we may conclude that Hö-dim\([0,1]^n = \dim [0,1]^n\). For the Menger cubes \(M^n\) also the equivalence is proved. It is intriguing to see that the Hölder dimension function is real-valued and not integer-valued as usual. This is quite new in dimension theory. Based on a shark teeth construction examples are build of spaces \(W_\alpha\) having S-dim\((W_\alpha) = \text{ Hö-dim} (W_\alpha) = 1+1/\alpha\) for each real number \(\alpha>0\). The theory build is interesting and giving new elements to dimension theory.
