The authors consider totally geodesic hypersurfaces \(M^3\) in the de Sitter space-time \(S^4_1\), and space-like surfaces \(\psi : M^2 \rightarrow M^3\) with zero mean curvature. These are stationary surfaces in \(S^4_1\). The main aim of the paper is to investigate the stability of this family of stationary surfaces. Three quite technical theorems are proven. One of their corollaries states that the Clifford torus and the great sphere in the three-dimensional unit sphere are mean isotropically stable when they are considered as stationary surfaces of the de Sitter space \(S^4_1\).
