    Let \(p(z)=a_0+\sum^n_{\nu=\mu}a_\nu z^\nu\), \(1\leq \mu\leq n\), be a polynomial of degree \(n\) such that \(p(z)\neq 0\) in \(|z|<k\), \(k>0\). Then for \(0<r\leq R\leq k\) the authors obtain a sharp lower bound for \(\max_{|z|=r}p(z)|\) that involves \(a_0\), \(\mu,k,\max_{|z|=R}|p(z)|\) and \(\min_{|z|=k}|p(z)|\); this extends an earlier result of \textit{K. K. Dewan, R. S. Yadav} and \textit{M. S. Pukhta} [Math. Inequal. Appl. 2, No. 2, 203--205 (1999; Zbl 0927.30005)]. They also obtain a sharp upper bound for \(\max_{|z|=R}|p'(z)|\) that involves \(a_0,\mu,k,\max_{|z|= r}|p(z)|\) and \(\min_{|z|=k}|p(z)|\); this extends an earlier result of \textit{A. Aziz} and \textit{W. M. Shah} [Math. Inequal. Appl. 7, No. 3, 379--391 (2004; Zbl 1061.30001)].
